(S)-3,3'-Bis(diphenylphosphanyl)-[1,1'-binapthalene]-2,2'-diol is an aniline that can be synthesized from terminal alkynes and palladium complexes. This compound has been shown to catalyze the asymmetric ring-opening of some heterocycles such as pyridines or quinolines. The mechanistic pathway of this reaction is rationalized by a proton transfer from the nucleophile to the electrophile. The enantiopure product was obtained in high yield with a high degree of stereoselectivity. The synthesis of amines and epoxides were also possible using this catalyst.
