- 3,4-Diphenyl-5-Methylisoxazole
5-Methyl-3,4-diphenylisoxazole is an industrial chemical that is used in the production of medicines. It can be found as a chloride salt or as a free base. The main use of 5-methyl-3,4-diphenylisoxazole is to produce antihypertensive drugs and diuretics. This compound has been shown to have genotoxic impurities such as acrolein and benzaldehyde, which are known to be carcinogenic and mutagenic respectively. Dehydration of the compound can lead to formation of toxic intermediates such as formaldehyde and nitrosamines. It has also been shown to inhibit cell function by binding with DNA and RNA synthesis machinery, leading to a decrease in protein synthesis.
