20-Dihydroprednisolonic acid is a synthetic compound that is used as a stabilizer in the cytosol of cells. It binds to primary amines and increases the rate of their conversion to secondary, tertiary, and quaternary amines. 20-Dihydroprednisolonic acid has been shown to be an inhibitor of phosphatases, which are enzymes that hydrolyze phosphate groups from phosphoproteins. The product of this reaction is an amino acid with a free carboxyl group. 20-Dihydroprednisolonic acid also inhibits β-glucuronidase and acid phosphatase, which are enzyme that hydrolyze glucuronic or phosphoric esters respectively. As such, 20-dihydroprednisolonic acid prevents the breakdown of prednisolone, which is a steroid hormone synthesized from cholesterol in the adrenal cortex.
