Smpt is a protein that has been shown to regulate muscle cell proliferation. It is activated by receptor binding and can be detected in the blood of patients with infectious diseases. Smpt binds to monoclonal antibodies and may be used as a diagnostic agent for infectious diseases. Smpt also binds to a growth factor called malonic acid, forming a disulfide bond, which is required for the molecule's activity. Smpt may play a role in autoimmune diseases by regulating protein synthesis.
