2-Chloro-5-fluorophenylhydrazine is a potent inhibitor of glucose uptake in adipocytes. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme called phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, which is involved in the conversion of phosphoenol pyruvate to oxaloacetate. This inhibition leads to decreased production of ATP and increased levels of AMP, which may lead to insulin resistance. The mechanism by which it inhibits this enzyme is not yet fully understood. 2-Chloro-5-fluorophenylhydrazine has also been shown to inhibit esterification of fatty acids with glycerol in adipocytes, leading to reduced fat accumulation in these cells. 2CFPH can be synthesized from methyl esters or ester derivatives. This compound has been used as an electron donor for kinetic studies and docking simulations on enzymes such as phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase .
