- Hydroxychloroquine
Hydroxychloroquine is a sesquiterpene lactone that has immunomodulatory effects and is used in the treatment of cancer, chronic kidney disease, and autoimmune disorders. Hydroxychloroquine has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). It also inhibits the activity of a number of enzymes, including lipases, proteases, kinases, phosphatases, and adenosyl cyclase. Hydroxychloroquine is also known for its anti-inflammatory effects. Hydroxychloroquine can be metabolized by oxidation to chlorohydroxyquinoline or through an enzymatic pathway involving cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6.
