Rimeporide is a cardiac drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as β-adrenergic receptor antagonists. It is an enhancement agent that has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in preclinical models. Rimeporide has been clinically studied for its effects on the heart, including its ability to lower blood pressure and prolong the QT interval. This drug also affects insulin sensitivity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit a protein called dystrophin. Rimeporide is being developed for use as a diagnostic agent for congestive heart failure and insulin resistance.
