Descrizione

Picrocrocin is a carotenoid that is extracted from the saffron crocus. It is a mixture of two closely related compounds, crocin and safranal. Picrocrocin has been shown to have synergistic effects with other drugs, such as erythromycin and neomycin, in vitro assays. This may be due to its ability to protect against mitochondrial membrane potential loss in myeloma cells. Picrocrocin also has surface activity, which is a property that may make it useful for drug delivery applications.
