Descrizione

(Z)-2-Methylbut-2-enoate is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to be effective against a range of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It also inhibits the growth of cancer cells and angiogenic factors. This compound has a potential use as a therapeutic agent in inflammatory skin diseases. The mechanism of action is not yet fully understood but may involve toll-like receptor 4, which is activated by bacterial lipopolysaccharides. (Z)-2-Methylbut-2-enoate binds to the enzyme DNA polymerase causing it to stall, preventing replication of the DNA strand and leading to cell death. The natural compound has been found in foods such as fructus, which are Chinese herbs with antiinflammatory properties.
