2-((Thiazol-2-ylamino)methyl)phenol is a surfactant that has been shown to be thermally and proton stable. It is also magnetic and anion exchanger, which means it can be used in the separation of ions. This compound is intercalated with cations such as Cu, Pb, and Cd, so it can be used in the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. 2-(Thiazol-2-ylamino)methylphenol forms monomers in aqueous solution at high pH and can be polymerized by amines to form polymers. These polymers have been found to adsorb organic compounds such as benzene from water. The structure of 2-(Thiazol-2-ylamino)methylphenol was determined by magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 250 MHz and its purity was demonstrated by titration with hydrochloric acid (HCl).
