Yttrium(III) bromide (YBr3) is a chemical compound with the formula YBr3. It is a salt of yttrium and bromine. It has an onset of action of 3-5 minutes and an absorption spectrum in which it absorbs x-rays at a wavelength of 0.5 to 1.5 nanometers, as well as wavelengths in the range of 2 to 4 nanometers. The complex molecules that are formed when YBr3 dissolves in water include cations such as Br-, OH-, H+, and Cl-; anions such as BrO4-, SO42-, O2-, and HCO3-. Solutions containing this compound are used for x-ray absorption experiments because they produce bright lines on a photographic plate.
