4-(2,3-Dichlorophenyl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic Acid is a calcium antagonist that is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It is an inhibitor of the action of calcium on vascular and other smooth muscle cells. This drug is also known by its trade name Amlodipine. The drug has been shown to reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension and has been approved for this use in many countries. 4-(2,3-Dichlorophenyl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic Acid has a number of esterified forms that are metabolized differently. These include esters with methoxy groups on the phenyl ring or alkyl groups on the carboxyl group.
