Di-o-methylcrenatin is a flavonoid that is found in the roots of plants from the genus Eleutherococcus and Sideritis. It has shown to have potential anti-cancer effects, as well as protection against oxidative stress. Di-o-methylcrenatin also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, which may be one of the mechanisms for its anti-inflammatory properties. Di-o-methylcrenatin has been shown to inhibit prostate cancer cell growth in vitro. The compound also has a strong inhibitory effect on the growth of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells. These effects are due to its ability to induce apoptosis and inhibit protein synthesis in these cells.
