Descrizione

BDE-100 is a polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) that belongs to the group of brominated flame retardants. It was used as a flame retardant in electrical and electronic equipment, textiles, and furniture. PBDEs are found in human blood and tissue samples worldwide. The toxic effects of PBDEs on humans are not fully understood, but it has been shown that they are genotoxic and can cause developmental abnormalities in laboratory animals. BDE-100 is commonly detected in the environment due to its widespread use as a flame retardant. The presence of this chemical can be determined by using solid phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis.
BDE-100 is used for the detection of this chemical because it has an affinity for basic proteins such as albumin, which makes it easier to detect than other PBDEs.
