Descrizione:Ubiquitin is a small (8.5 kDa) protein that was first discovered in the 1960s and has been extensively studied ever since. Ubiquitin is involved in many cellular processes, including cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, and apoptosis. Ubiquitin's role in cell cycle regulation is to bind to other proteins to mark them for degradation by proteasomes. This process of marking for degradation is called ubiquitylation. There are six different types of ubiquitin chains: K48-linked polyubiquityl chain, K63-linked polyubiquityl chain, linear polyubiquityl chain, N-end rule modified linear polyubiquityl chain, mixed linkage linear polyubiquityl chain and C-end rule modified linear polyubiquityl chain.Ubiquitin is also involved in DNA repair as it binds to damaged DNA and removes the damage before it can lead to mutations.
