Informazioni sul prodotto
Gossypol is a natural compound that has been used as a male contraceptive. It is an inhibitor of mitochondrial membrane potential and of the enzyme activities involved in energy metabolism. Gossypol also inhibits the production of cell factor, which is important for proliferation of cells. Gossypol shows antimitogenic activity by inhibiting the cellular synthesis of nuclear DNA, thereby affecting the process of mitosis. Gossypol also shows hormonal effects by affecting the release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone from the pituitary gland, thus decreasing testosterone levels in males. The effectiveness of gossypol as a male contraceptive is improved with its conjugation to acetate esters (gossypol acetate). This conjugation increases its solubility and stability, making it more suitable for oral administration.
