Ipecoside is a dopamine-indole alkaloid that belongs to the genus Ipecac. It is a liquid crystalline substance with an acidic character and an indole nucleus. Ipecoside can be synthesized by several methods, including the conversion of aliphatic hydrocarbons into indoles and the condensation of tryptamine with aniline. Ipecosides are characterized by their isomers, which can be separated using chromatography.
