Methyl 3-hydroxyheptanoate is a long-chain aliphatic compound that belongs to the group of organic compounds. It has been shown to undergo a transition from hydrophobic interaction with the hydrophobic microenvironment of an enzyme active site to enantioselective interactions with the enzyme. This compound is also capable of forming synergistic effects with other molecules, such as catalytic transfer hydrogenation or hydrophobic interactions.
