2,4,5,6,7-Pentabromo-1H-benzoimidazole is a modulating molecule that has been shown to inhibit leukemias by binding to tyrosine kinases. The hydroxyl group on the 2 position of the benzene ring binds to the ATP site of the enzyme and blocks the phosphorylation of tyrosine residues on the protein substrate. This inhibition is due to an increase in the rate of protein turnover, which leads to a decrease in protein synthesis and cell division. The 2,4,5,6,7-pentabromo-1H-benzoimidazole inhibits cancer cell growth by inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing apoptosis.
