N1-Ethyl-4-nitrobenzene-1,2-diamine (ENBD) is a copper(II) chelate. It has been shown to exhibit antiferromagnetic coupling in the solid state and in solution. The coordination chemistry of ENBD involves the formation of a five-membered chelate ring with one nitrogen atom and two ethyl groups. This compound can be used as a catalyst for organic reactions, such as cyclization reactions. Magnetic properties have been observed for ENBD when it is prepared in the form of an azomethine complex with ligands.
