3-Bromomethyl-4-nitrobenzoic acid (3BMNBA) is a lipophilic organic compound that belongs to the group of esters and anionic compounds. It is envisaged to be used as a photochromic substance, which changes its optical properties when exposed to light. 3BMNBA can be used in the synthesis of amides and esters with a variety of moieties, such as amine, thiol, alcohol, carboxylic acid, ethers, nitro and halogen. The functionalities of 3BMNBA are not limited to the ones mentioned above. This compound has been synthesized in a reaction between 3-bromomethyl benzoic acid and nitric acid.
