Butyl isocyanatoacetate is a molecule that can be used to synthesize polyurethanes. It can react with primary amines, such as ethanolamine and ethylene diamine, to form polyurethanes. The gene sequences of butyl isocyanatoacetate were analyzed using DNA sequencing and the results showed that it has an alopecia-inducing effect in mice. Butyl isocyanatoacetate has been found to have a structural resemblance to Alzheimer's disease proteins, and may have an immunological role. Butyl isocyanatoacetate has been shown to protect cells from infarction when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. It is also an organic solvent that can be used for supernatant extractions.
