2-Furan-2-ylmethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester is an antiarrhythmic agent. It inhibits the sodium ion channels in heart cells, thereby increasing the duration of cell depolarization and contraction. 2-Furan-2-ylmethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester has also been shown to inhibit potassium ion channels, which slows down the rate of repolarization of these cells. This drug is a chloride channel blocker that blocks the flow of positively charged ions into cells and causes them to hyperpolarize. 2-Furan-2-ylmethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester binds to sulfate and chloride ions, which are involved in the regulation of blood pressure by influencing electrolyte balance. This drug also binds to potassium carbonate, which is responsible for regulating blood pH levels. 2-Furan-2-ylmethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester is readily soluble
