7-Methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene is a natural compound that is the product of piperonyl butoxide and epoxidase activity. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of wild type strains of Galleria mellonella, but not a mutant strain. The insecticidal effect was correlated with β-caryophyllene and precocene. 7-Methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene has also been shown to be active against sesquiterpene lactone producing bacteria. A sublethal dose of 7-methoxy 2,2 dimethyl 2H chromene can inhibit the growth of Sesquiterpene Lactone producing bacteria in vitro by inhibiting the production of sesquiterpenes. 7-Methoxy 2,2 dimethyl 2H chromene has also been shown to be toxic to wild type strains of Galleria
