Methoxyacetate is a glycol ether that is used as a cross-linking agent in the polymerization of polyurethane. It has been shown to react with l-tartaric acid and amides to form amine or phenylpropionic acid, respectively. Methoxyacetate can also react with carbonyl groups, such as those found in urine samples, forming reaction products. The optical rotation of methoxyacetate is dependent on the enantiomer of the compound and the concentration of ammonium hydroxide solution present in the reaction solution.
