3-Iodophenyl acetate is a halogenated organic compound that belongs to the class of insecticides. It has been shown to have biological activity against Lepidoptera and is used as an insecticide. 3-Iodophenyl acetate inhibits the growth of various insects by disrupting hydrogen bonds in their cell membranes. The discovery of this insecticide was first reported in 1887, but it was not until 1945 that its chemical structure was determined and its insecticidal properties were demonstrated. 3-Iodophenyl acetate has a molecular formula C8H7IO2 and a molecular weight of 208.19 g/mol. This compound is poorly soluble in water, but readily dissolves in benzene or other organic solvents such as chloroform, ether, or acetone.
