6-Chloro-8-methyl-9H-purine is an intermediate in the synthesis of purines. It can be synthesized by cross coupling reactions using phenylboronic acid and methylmagnesium. The first step is a nucleophilic substitution with chloride to form a chlorocarbonyl derivative, followed by a second nucleophilic substitution with phenylboronic acid. This reaction produces an analogous product that can be transformed into the desired 6-chloro-8-methyl-9H-purine. 6-Chloro-8-methyl-9H-purine is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other purines and pharmaceuticals.
