Pentamethylcyclopentadienylbis(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) chloride is a crystalline compound that can be found in solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane and tetrahydrofuran. It has a melting point of 181-183 ˚C and a solubility of 2.5 g/100 mL in water. This compound has an orange color when heated, which changes to red when cooled below its melting point. Pentamethylcyclopentadienylbis(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) chloride is prepared by the reaction between pentamethylcyclopentadiene and triphenylphosphine:
