1,3-Bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolium-2-carboxylate is a zwitterionic compound that can act as a catalyst for the epoxidation of olefins. It has been used to synthesize epoxides with high yields and catalytic activity. This catalytic process has been shown to be more effective than the thermal process in producing epoxides with fewer byproducts. The catalytic activity of 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolium-2-carboxylate was found to be dependent on the nature of the substrate. It is also very stable and does not decompose at high temperatures.
