2-Methoxy-3-methylphenol is an organic compound that has a phenolic hydroxyl group and an ethyl group. It is used as a solvent, antioxidant, and pharmaceutical drug. 2-Methoxy-3-methylphenol reacts with oxygen in the air to form oxidation products such as 2,4,5-trimethoxyphenol and 4,5-dihydroxybenzene. It can also be oxidized by halogens to form halogenated derivatives such as 2,4,5-trichlorophenol. In addition to oxidation reactions, this chemical can undergo nucleophilic substitution reactions with alcohols or amines to form reaction products such as 3-methoxypropanol and 3-(2'-hydroxyethyl)morpholine respectively.
