Ethyl 2,6-dichloropyrimidine-4-carboxylate is a synthetic molecule with a molecular weight of 204. It has a propiolic group and two phenylamino groups that are attached by a cyanogen bridge. This compound has been synthesized for use in the production of polyethylene terephthalate. It is not used as an antibiotic. The chlorine atoms are located on the pyrimidine ring and can be substituted with other halogens, such as bromine or iodine. It is soluble in chloroacetic acid and alicyclic solvents but insoluble in dimethoxybenzene, naphthol, or trimethylsulfonium chloride. It also reacts with acetone to form a residue that contains cyanuric acid.
