The sequential process for this synthesis involves cross-coupling followed by reductive amination and electrophilic substitution. 4-Bromo-2-iodonitrobenzene is also used in the manufacture of ellipticinium, another antibiotic that is active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
