2,6-Dimethylaniline-d6 is an impurity found in 2,6-dimethylaniline. It has been shown to have carcinogenic potential in humans and animals. The second-order rate constant for the conversion of 2,6-dimethylaniline to 2,6-dimethylaniline-d6 was determined as 8.3 X 10^3/molecule/sec. It is a pair of stereoisomers that differ only in the orientation of their methyl group on the benzene ring. 2,6-Dimethylaniline-d6 can be removed from wastewater by solid phase microextraction using monoclonal antibodies immobilized on silica gel particles or by chemical treatment with nitrite and ferrous ion.
