- Methyl 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)propanoate
Methyl 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)propionate is a chemical that is synthesized by reduction of 4-hydroxycoumarin. It can be obtained by the reaction of phenol and formaldehyde, followed by hydrolysis with dilute acid. It has been shown to have a reducing effect on 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of melilotus. Methyl 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)propionate also has a role in the biosynthesis of arene compounds such as benzene and toluene.
