N-(4-(Diethylaminobenzylidenyl)-N'-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)-hydrazine (MDL-28170) is a small molecule that inhibits the activity of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), which is a transcriptional activator of genes. It has been shown to regulate cell function and regression, as well as markers activated by NF-κB in the mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and nucleus. MDL-28170 inhibits the activation of NF-κB in animal models and induces histologic regression in rats with induced prostate cancer. This agent also displays antiestrogenic effects by inhibiting the expression of estrogen receptors alpha and beta.
