1,3-Propanedisulfonic acid is a molecule that is used in pharmaceutical dosage as a basic dye. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme cathepsin D, which plays an important role in the development of amyloidosis. This drug has also been shown to have a high resistance to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriasis. 1,3-Propanedisulfonic acid has also been shown to be useful for treating congestive heart failure and chronic renal failure with nephrology dialysis or renal transplantation. It also has been shown to be effective in cell cultures by preventing apoptosis and regulating cell cycle progression.
