2-(2-Nitrophenyl)acrylaldehyde is a chemical substance used in the synthesis of other chemical substances. It is produced by a reaction between sodium periodate and 2-nitrobenzoic acid in dimethyl sulfoxide, catalyzed by dicyclohexylcarbodiimide. The chemical can be transformed into 2-(2-nitrophenyl)acrylic acid, which is an important raw material for producing various pharmaceuticals, such as alfentanil, etoposide, and nisoldipine. 2-(2-Nitrophenyl)acrylaldehyde can also be used to synthesize ruthenium complexes with high catalytic activity.
