EHCC acts as an agonist for the pancreatic β receptor, which increases the production of insulin. This compound is orally active and has been shown to improve glucose homeostasis in diabetic animals. EHCC also has hepatobiliary effects and can be used to treat liver diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
