Isopropyl 2-propoxyacetate is a chiral ester that is synthesized by the reaction of isopropanol and propionic acid. It has been shown to be an effective substrate for lipase, with a kinetic rate constant of 3.5 × 10 M-1s-1. The enantiomeric excess of this product was determined to be 92%. Isopropyl 2-propoxyacetate has been used as a substrate in esterification reactions catalyzed by enzymes such as catalase, lipase, and dehydrogenase. In these experiments, the catalyst was optimized for maximum yield and selectivity. Amine catalysts have also been used to acylate this molecule in order to produce amides or urea derivatives.
