Betamethasone 17-benzoate is a synthetic corticosteroid with antiinflammatory and antipruritic properties. It is available in the form of an ointment, cream, or lotion. Betamethasone 17-benzoate has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and leishmania. Betamethasone binds to the glucocorticoid receptor and inhibits the production of prostaglandins involved in inflammation. This drug also has a low potency, which means that it takes more time for this drug to have an effect on the body.
