Bismuth(III) acetate is a white crystalline compound with the chemical formula Bi(OAc)3. It is the most common form of bismuth and has been used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including high blood pressure, stomach problems, and skin conditions. Bismuth(III) acetate exerts antibacterial effects by inhibiting the growth of bacteria that are resistant to benzimidazole compounds. The inhibitory effect of bismuth(III) acetate can be attributed to its ability to bind with nitrogen atoms on the bacterial cell surface. Bismuth(III) acetate also reacts with magnesium salt to form ferroelectric crystals that have been shown to be effective as an organic solution for electroplating metals such as palladium.
