3,5-Dichlorophenyl methyl sulphone is a metabolite of 3,5-dichlorophenol (PCP) and has been shown to have a function as an inhibitor of cytochrome P450. This metabolite binds to the receptor binding sites on the microsomal membrane, preventing the interaction of substrate with cytochrome P450. The binding affinity is stronger for hydroxylase than for other enzymes. It also inhibits CYP 1A1 and CYP 2E1 in rat liver microsomes. 3,5-Dichlorophenyl methyl sulphone is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not bind to adipose tissue or intestinal cells.
