Dihydroavenanthramid D is a natural product that belongs to the class of hydroxy-β-carboline alkaloids. It has been used in cosmetically and pharmacologically active preparations, as well as dietary supplements. The hydroxyl group on the dihydroavenanthramide molecule allows it to form ester linkages with other substances, which may be responsible for its antimicrobial properties.
