It can be used as a nucleophile in nucleophilic substitution reactions. 1,2-Bis[(2R,5R)-2,5-dimethylphospholano]benzene is an unsaturated ketone that is able to undergo alkylation with chloride and palladium complexes. The isomers of this compound are synthesized by the reaction of methides with β-unsaturated ketones. This compound forms crystalline solids that have a blue dichroism spectrum when exposed to polarized light.
