2-Amino-6-ureidohexanoic acid is an endogenous amino acid that has been shown to have antioxidant properties and to increase the rate of translation. It also has potential as a biomarker for ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and other inflammatory bowel diseases. 2-Amino-6-ureidohexanoic acid is found in sphingolipids, which are important for cell membrane structure and function. This amino acid also helps with carbohydrate metabolism and histidine synthesis. 2-Amino-6-ureidohexanoic acid has been shown to be deficient in patients with colitis or Crohn's disease, but not in those with ulcers or celiac disease.
