CAS:Procyanidin A1 is a procyanidin with a chemical structure similar to the common flavonoid. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Procyanidin A1 also has an ability to block LPS-stimulated production of TNF-α and IL-6 in RAW 264.7 cells, as well as up-regulate the expression of genes involved in fatty acid metabolism. The bioactive phenolic compounds found in procyanidin A1 are capable of inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to apoptosis, and can induce activation of the transcription factor NF-κB (a-type). In addition, procyanidin A1 has been shown to inhibit the growth of basophilic leukemia cells through upregulation of Bcl2 protein expression.
