4-Fluoropyridine-3-carbonitrile is a naphthyridine that can be used in the synthesis of various other compounds. It can be prepared by condensation of 4-fluoronitrobenzene with acetamide and ammonium acetate in the presence of dimethylacetal to give the cyclized product. This intermediate can then undergo a second condensation to yield the final product. 4-Fluoropyridine-3-carbonitrile can also be synthesized from pyridinium chlorochromate and cyclohexanone, which yields 4-(4'-pyridinyl)pyridine-3-carbonitrile.
