Roxarsone is a monosodium salt that is soluble in water. Roxarsone has the potential to be used as a biomarker for exposure to arsenic. It has been shown to have polymerase chain, enzyme activities, and energy metabolism effects in vitro. Roxarsone also inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with DNA synthesis and plasma mass spectrometry. This drug may also induce toxicity in humans, although this is not well-studied.
