Pseudocantharidin C is a natural compound that belongs to the family of hydroquinones. It has been shown to inhibit transcription and RNA synthesis in human cells through the activation of protein kinases and phosphatases. Pseudocantharidin C also inhibits viral mRNA production, which may be due to its ability to induce messenger RNA degradation. The pseudocantharidin C-induced inhibition of transcription correlates with its ability to prevent neuronal atrophy in adult mice, as well as preventing splicing defects in motoneurons from infant mice.
