Descrição:
Óxido de magnésio (MgO) é um composto inorgânico caracterizado por sua aparência branca e em pó e alto ponto de fusão. É formado pela reação do magnésio com o oxigênio e é comumente encontrado na natureza como o mineral periclase. Óxido de magnésio é conhecido por sua excelente estabilidade térmica e é um bom isolante elétrico. Tem um alto ponto de fusão, tornando-o adequado para aplicações em altas temperaturas, como materiais refratários em fornos. Quimicamente, é um óxido básico e reage com ácidos para formar sais de magnésio. Em termos de solubilidade, o MgO é pouco solúvel em água, mas pode reagir com ácidos para produzir sais de magnésio solúveis. Suas aplicações são diversas, variando desde o uso em materiais de construção, agricultura como condicionador de solo, até seu papel na produção de metal de magnésio.
